DENTAL BENEFITS FOR FIRST NATIONS AND INUIT: NON-INSURED HEALTH BENEFITS (NIHB) PROGRAM

At Global Dent, we are proud to be part of the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program, which provides essential dental care to eligible First Nations members and recognized Inuit. This program, which came into effect on February 1, 2023, aims to offer medically necessary benefits that are not covered by private insurance, provincial or territorial health plans, or social programs.

WHAT IS THE NIHB PROGRAM?

The Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program is a federal initiative that offers coverage for essential health services to First Nations and Inuit communities. In addition to providing assistance for medications, medical equipment, and transportation, the program also offers benefits for necessary dental care not covered by other forms of insurance. This support is vital to ensuring good oral health, which is a key component of overall well-being.

OUR NIHB-COVERED DENTAL SERVICES

At Global Dent, we provide a wide range of dental care services covered by the NIHB program to ensure that our First Nations and Inuit patients receive the treatments they need to maintain optimal oral health. Some of the services we offer under the program include:

Regular dental exams: to assess and monitor oral health.

Preventive care: such as scaling and prophylaxis to prevent future issues.

Dental restorations: including fillings to treat cavities and other dental damage.

Oral surgery: such as extractions when medically necessary.

Root canal treatments and other endodontic care: to treat dental infections and save affected teeth.

Our qualified dentists have experience providing care tailored to the specific needs of our Indigenous patients, ensuring a respectful and inclusive environment for every consultation.

HOW TO ACCESS THESE BENEFITS

To access dental care covered by the NIHB program, patients must be eligible as First Nations or Inuit members and present the necessary documents during their visit. It’s important to note that the program only covers care that is deemed medically necessary.

If you are a member of the First Nations or Inuit and would like more information about your rights under the NIHB program, please contact our clinic for more details and to schedule an appointment. We are here to guide you through the process and ensure that you receive the care you need.
