Periodontal disease is one of the most common oral conditions. Dentists monitor it closely, as it gradually damages the tissues that support the teeth. There are generally two main types:

Gingivitis: this is inflammation of the gums caused by the accumulation of bacterial plaque. This disease is very common and is one of the most frequent reasons for visiting the dentist. It usually causes irritation, swelling, and redness of the gums surrounding the teeth.

This condition must be treated quickly at a dental clinic, as it is reversible. With proper treatment, the patient's gum health can be restored. If gingivitis is not treated in time, it can progress to periodontitis.

Periodontitis: This is a serious infection of the tissues that support the tooth (bone and gums), caused by bacteria and which can lead to irreversible destruction of the alveolar bone. The dentist diagnoses this condition during a thorough examination. Bacteria lodge in the space between the tooth and the gum, causing an inflammatory process that leads to the formation of periodontal pockets. Other risk factors can also be assessed, such as smoking, certain medications, dental malocclusion, or bruxism.

Both conditions can be accompanied by symptoms such as bleeding gums or bad breath, and can even lead to tooth loss if left untreated. They are often associated with poor oral hygiene. It is therefore possible to prevent them by adopting a daily routine and visiting the dentist regularly.

At Global Dent, a precise diagnosis is made in order to determine the most appropriate periodontal treatment by the dentist.
Procedures vary depending on the severity of the case, ranging from professional cleaning and curettage to periodontal surgery, all of which are offered at the dental clinic. These treatments reduce bleeding, halitosis, tooth mobility, and premature tooth loss.

These preventive measures are always recommended by the dentist during your visits, as they play an essential role in reducing complications related to other diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, or certain respiratory problems.
